How do I setup RAID 1 on perc 5/i

I have an old PE1950 that I am re-purposing. It has a perc 5/i and one 500GB WD Black. I am done building the OS, configuring the app and now I want to add a second drive to mirror the OS. I am using the 5/i bios. I am able to add the new PD, initialize it and even made it available to the OS, but I can't figure out how to get the 5/i to accept the drive as an acceptable mirror. The drives are both WD 500GB Black SATA. What am I missing?

If this is indeed a PERC 5/i, then the only way you could have made it available to the OS is by making it a single-disk RAID 0.  You must first delete that RAID 0 VD.  What OS do you have installed?  From OMSA, you need to go to Storage, PERC, Virtual Disks, and delete VD1 (your new/second/unwanted) RAID 0, then from the dropdown menu for VD0 (your original/good RAID 0), you need to select Reconfigure ... from the wizard you will select the new disk, select RAID 1 and wait for it to complete the conversion of a single-disk RAID 0 to a two-disk RAID 1.

Thanks, rebuilding now. Is this a process that is just not do able through the bios?

No ... it requires OSMA - either running from the OS or from a bootable 'live" CD.

Hi kw1162

I'm afraid you can't perform the reconstruct/reconfigure in PERC5/i bios.

You can only do it in OMSA.

Here's a link for your reference, on page 247:-

The controller is saying "No Configuration Present!"

Maybe you can help me out with this now. The system is reporting that there is no boot device, and the configuration is foreign?

I followed the instructions, the rebuild started. I came in this morning and the server was at an error prompt, telling me the configuration had been changed. Am I supposed to disable the bios maybe?

What changed?  Had you attempted anything?  What exactly did you do?

Sorry, but the only elaboration I would have would be to refer to the instructions I recieved. Yes, I installed OMSA, then I used the information from the post. Everything was exactly as the post.

What about the PD MGMT and Foreign screens?  Go to the CTRL MGMT screen ... what is the firmware package version?

You followed what instructions - for a "reconfigure"?

Boot to CTRL-R ... what exactly does it say on the different screens (VD MGMT, PD MGMT, and Foreign)?

01:00  ATA  476416 SATA Foreign

01:01  ATA  476416 SATA Foreign

F2 on either has only Blink option

I have an old PE1950 that I am re-purposing. It has a perc 5/i and one 500GB WD Black. I am done building the OS, configuring the app and now I want to add a second drive to mirror the OS. I used OMSA to add the mirror, but now the bios is reporting Controller 0 "No Configuration Present!"

Please Help

I followed the steps you provided me.

Did you get PD MGMT info? I don't see it, but the post is saying it is a duplicate?

On the CTRL MGMT screen, what is the "package version"?

"I followed the steps you provided me."

Don't be afraid to elaborate.  You installed OMSA?  You started a "reconfigure"?  The reason I ask is because this is not actually a "rebuild", but you said it was "rebuilding" ... it is important to understand exactly what you did if we are to help you figure out what happened and how to fix it.
