Todays iDRAC contains a "storage" section. So check your older iDRAC if there are storage related infos about configuration layout and current state. We have PowerEdge from all periods of time and its hard to remember which modell supports what.
Our monitoring (based on NAGIOS core) reports degraded VDs and the rebuild progress and as a requirement a installed OMSA is needed.
If you have OMSA installed try to reach https://ip_of_the_host:1311 If you have a local FW active check if 1311/tcp is allowed. Otherwise you need a local browser on your linux host but i assume its GUI less because its a server and not a desktop
I assume that OMreport will give you the answer because thats what the monitoring plugin used. .... but i need to dig into the code to find out the right parameters.
For the PERC HBAs there is also perccli or the older megacli command line tool.

Joerg

When ever its possible try to set the disk into offline (ony when its not real dead). After that replace the dead with a new one and now it depends if the new one is insert automaticly and the rebuild is started or do you need to configure it as a Hotspare and assign this to your diskgroup. The Hotspare than kicks in an rebuild is starte. OMreport can report the progress... i am sure you will see it also in OMSA.

Hi Joerg,
Thank you for your valuable input.
With omreport command can we see whether faulty disk is assigned to Hotspare option? Is there any command will show the details report of the pdisk.
Kindly advise.
