Internal PCIe controller cards

Hello,

with this card: LSI2032 SCSI Internal PCIe Controller Card, is it possible to connect an external peripheric? Or is it just destined to an internal one (i.e for internal HD or external HD)

In fact I wonder as a whole whether what is called "internal PCIe Controller card" can connect either external or internal peripheric...

Thanks in advance for your answer

It would help if you mentioned which server model you have.

Yes, sorry...it's a PE T300.

But generally I would like to know if the mentionned controller was dealing with internal or external peripheric. I could eventually have to set an external tape recorder (LTO2 or 3).

Judging from the "Getting Started Guide" for the T300 (here)

, there is no SCSI card in this system, just a SAS controller. It seems to be going to the (optional) hotswap bays only. You could add a PCI-X (there's 1 slot) or PCIe SCSI card though.

I am about to set the message as solved, that's what I thought...just one last thing to be completely satisfied.

I had a look on the PE R300 model, in which a LSI2032 SCSI Internal PCIe Controller Card is available in option.

What is it aimed for? Could I connect the tape recorder to it? Or is it destined for adding an internal peripheric?

Besides, if an internal SCSI controller (not PCI) is already present in a system for the HD, could I connect my tape recorder if there is some connectors left? i.e. is it possible to combine external and internal SCSI peripherals on the same SCSI controller?

Thanks in advance for your answer! :)

Looking at the specs in the Getting started guide for the R300, it doesn't show any SCSI card.

Internally it only supports 2 SAS or 2 SATA drives, so there's no SCSI harddrive support. As it's a 1U server there's no way a tape drive would fit inside.

This all would lead me to the conclusion that the optional PCIe SCSI card is for external SCSI devices like an external (SCSI) tape drive or tape library.
