Maximum HDD size for PERC H700 Controller

Hello,
I have a Poweredge R710 with a PERC H700 RAID controller.
My question now is, what is the maximum size for SATA HDDs to still be fully usable?
Can the PERC H700 detect SATA HDDs >2TB, or is it over at <= 2TB?

The official Dell manual does not say one way or the other.

This 3rd party site seems to say that it can support larger than 2TB

Im pretty sure i had this PERC in a Dell C2100 that i used with 8TB sata drives, but I dont remember if i swapped it out for an HBA or not. that was a while ago.

I do recall this guy having weird size limits though.

Wish I could be of more help, but my answer would be maybe

Hello, since the H700 is such an dated model, I would say, it's unlikely to work. the only way we will know is to hear from a user who has actually experienced this.

Sorry I can't be of help this time.

I also have an R710 + H700 setup and I am successfully running 4 x 3TB SATA drives as a RAID6 group and I am currently in the process of replacing each of those with 6TB drives.

So there isn't any full on capacity limit from my understanding. That being said it doesn't support 4kn drives so it won't detect their size properly so that will be the limiting factor you'll run into.

If you can get 512n or 512e drives you should be able to get any size you want.  I know that I've run 8TB 512e drives on an R710 with an H700 before.

Currently I have 4 physical disks on PERC H700:

2x 256gb

2x 4tb

No issues.  When I add two more 4tb it will not recognize them.  I need to check if the disks are bad or if I have reached some sort of limit.  I'm starting to think the disks are bad.  Both 4tb disks in use are RAID 0.

Hello, which hard drive are you adding? Any Dell part number? Here some information about the controller.

Thanks

Thanks @DELL-Marco B

These are DELL Constellation 4TB drives.  They are old.  I attached them to a USB drive adapter and my PC would not recognize them (probably since they are configured for RAID 0).  Is there a utility that I can use with an adapter like this that would check the drive health?  Thanks!
