PE2300 RAID drive failure - please help

I have a PE2300 with two 9GB HD's and one of the drives has failed.  The two drives were configured using RAID 1.  At post it reads: LD 0; RAID 1; Size 8568MB; #Stripes 2; StrpSz 64KB; Drive State: Degraded.  If I replace the bad drive, will it automatically rebuild the new drive and then will I be back in business - or is there another procedure?  I understand from reading other posts that a newer generation Ultra320 drive should work, but are new 9GB drives still available?  I'd like to get larger capacity drives at this point, if possible, and still retain the data on the one remaining good drive.  What would be the best way to proceed?

Depending on the model of RAID controller and the firmware version, the Rebuild may start automatically when you replace the drive. If it doesn't, you can start the rebuild in the controller bios or Dell Open Manage Array Manager. It is OK to add a larger drive, but only 9GB will be used. Make sure the replacement drive is the same speed as the old drive. If the old drive is a 10K drive then replace it with a 10K drive. U320 and U160 can be mixed and should not present a problem.

John, thanks for the quick response.  Looks like I have an IBM DPSS-309170M rev. S93E.  Do you know if that's a 10K RPM drive?

Is there a Dell part number on the drive-- a 5 character alpha numeric?

no dell part #.  some other info:  embedded server management firmware revision 4.18; system backplane firmware revision 5.23; PERC BIOS 1.36 021999; HA -0 (BUS 2 Dev 10) Type: PERC 2/SC Std. FW 3.00; DELL 1X6 U2W SCSI BP 5.23...  are there newer versions/revisions of software/firmware etc.?  will this setup auto rebuild the new drive when I install?  Also, I need to purchase an additional HD enclosure for the backplane - I want to eventually upgrade to RAID 5 w/ 3 drives - anyone know the part number/cost for these things?
