Perc H310 Controller on dell server question
I'm thinking of using a Dell Perc H310 controller in a S45 cs-24-sc Server. but I need to know if I can make a GPT partition? cause I have 4 2TB drives I want to setup in raid 5. Installing Windows 2008 R2

It may or may not work. This server came with SAS 6/ir controller, which limits one to a RAID 0 or 1. The H310 was not tested or certified in this custom server, so anything else would be tested on your own. There are no upgrade options or updates for this line.

the CS24-SC was a custom solution for a customer with no support. There are no service tags, no parts or support options for this piece of equipment through Dell. You may be able to find parts from ebay or other used equipment sources. You will find some helpful solutions through the Dell forums on what has been successful and what hasn't, but the server itself is not supported by Dell.

hmm well what I was trying to do. is setup a Raid 5 with 1 TB drives. but I can't find any UEFI bios support. for the 3TB drive it would create. so I was looking for a Raid card. that can create a Local Drive near that size. I think its 2.8 is what it comes out to. I'm installing windows 2008 r2. Would dell support work with me if I had this Perc controller in this server? This is a Dell server with your logo's and branding.

yeah I think its not going to work out. I need some sort of utility to create the GPT partition. I know I can setup an array in any raid raid in the bios. but for what I'm trying to do. I need some sort of utility that has the raid card drivers loaded and can create partitions. the utility would have to be 64 bit based too. I think any raid card I stick in this will have the same issue. I think I'm stuck with a 2 TB max logical drive. even when I create a 150 gig boot partition I think it will make the rest of the drive split up into 1 2TB then 650 gigs left for another.

You can try it, but most likely it will fail since its not a supported device. You will have to boot to the controller bios to set up the array. Its a manual process.

okay I understand. I think I could get it to do what I need to. If there is some sort of boot utility that lets me setup the arrays and create the install partitions. I know the dell server asstiant boot cd's do what I'm describing. But if I get one of these cards or a Perc Controller. will they work with a dell install CD in this server? Or will the dell boot disc not even work?
