PERC H330 hdd recognition
Hello Everyone
I am having problems with a stock T340 machine, still under warranty, and thought I would post here as a first port of call.
I purchased 2 lots of SAS hdds for use in the machine, but neither of these are recognised. Model numbers as follows:
HUH728080AL5024 (Hitachi 8tb)
ST6000NM0034 (Seagate 6tb)
I believe that these are Fujitsu drives.
Both of these sets of drives are in "state" "blocked" in the PERC (Ctrl-R) bios. And neither of these sets show up in either Windows server nor in FreeBSD.
All of the equipment on the machine is up to date as to firmware.
Has someone come across this before and have a solution to this, or should I simply open a support ticket.
My understanding is that Dell does not block third party hdds, at least not at present.
Thanks for the assistance, in advance.

Final update on this thread.
The reason for the blocked status of the drives was the block or sector size of the hard drives. They were all 520 logical sector emulated drives, and once I reformatted them to a sector size that the H330 understood they were visible to the OS (both Microsoft server and Centos) and initialised.

We can not guarantee that the server can detect third party drives as these are not validated. We seen third party drives are working most of the time but it is also observed in some cases it will not work.
Can you update latest BIOS, iDRAC and H330 FW and see whether any change in behavior?

Hello Shine,
Thank you for the reply.
As indicated in my initial post, all of the bios, iDrac, as well as Lcc, H330, backplane, and so forth, are all up to date.
What other suggestions do you have? Or should I open a support request? After all, the machine is under warranty.
Best regards

Okay, so I opened a support request and at this point have but only provided all the information requested, but something has come to my attention which I think may well be the concern.
The drives are physically 4k drives, of course, and formatted to a smaller logical size, but not to 512, but to 520 - and that, I believe, is what is showing a block on the state of the drives.
Will try my best to remember to finalise this thread with a resolution - for others' benefit.

Just out of curiosity, are you using the NE03 version of the ST6000NM0034 and have you had any other issues since?
