PERC H700 Controller with SSDs
Hi,
I'm looking at getting a R415 with the H700 controller and installing four Corsair SSDs in RAID 5.
Has anyone got any experience using SSDs (Corsair / Kingston / OCZ) with the PERC H700 in RAID 5?
Is this possible?
Thanks.

I am running RevoDrive 3 x2 in my dell R805's now with unreal performance gains however I am about to switch to a bit more reliable setup with the Perc H700 and 4 OCZ Vertex 3 drives in RAID 10.
If you are using (4) drives you are better off in RAID 10 (4x read and roughly 2x write). 4 120gb drives in RAID 10 would give you 240gb capacity. You can get (4) vertex 3 SATA III 120gb drives for over $700 that is less than (1) RevoDrive PCIe 3 X2.

I've read in the other threads that either the warning led or the disk activity light is always on when using 2.5" SSDs.
Please let me know how your setup goes. Thanks.

I just installed (2) IBM 1015 raid controllers flashed to LSI 9410 firmware (common) and setup (2) 120gb OCZ Vertex III Max IOPS mirrored per card. I then software raid 0 the drives in windows server 2008. With that setup my ATTO results are 900mb/sec write and 1,500mb/sec read. The reason I went with (2) raid controllers (cheap ones) over one good one (H700) is my Dell R805 is PCIe 1.x, not 2.x. So I am only 2.5ghz bandwidth per channel. My speed would max out at 700mb/sec or so. So splitting the bandwidth over (2) PCI slots allowed me to double my speed.
I also tried (1) raid controller setup in RAID 10 with 4 drives and my write was 600mb/sec and read was 700mb/sec. My total cost for that setup was $1100. Can't beat that for those results and still having redundancy!
I used that setup for my DB drive. I also installed another raid card with (2) SSD in raid 1 for my OS. I can't even begin to tell you how much performance I gained over my dell SAS 6/ir card and (2) 15k SAS drives.

We have 2 dell servers R515 with 4 Corsair 480GB SSD's on each (Dell1 has H200 raid card and has no problem with warning lights. It is configured with raid10 but even with SSD's speed is not impressive) (Dell2 has a H700 with raid 5 configured and I/O speed is really fast. problem is all the warning lights is blinking orange).
If anyone has a fix for this "non-dell drives warning" please let me know. =)

I get the same in R910 / H700. I have Performance 3 - the ones using similar or same controller as Crucial / Micron drives. I think SandForce based drives don't do that - I tried OCZ Vertex - don't remember if they were Vertex 2 (SandForce 1xxx) or Vertex 3 (SandForce 2xxx) and everything was fine. I haven't tried Corsair Force which are SandForce based.

Using software Raid 0 you are defeating the purpose or Raid1 or Raid 10. If the software raid gets corrupt its going to fail even if you have hardware raid 10.
