PowerEdge 2850 backplane replacement

Question

I'm getting the error message 'E0D76: BP Drive 1'. I've swapped the drives in slots 0 and 1 and the message stays the same, as does the message that it can't find disk 1 in the RAID configuration utility. That tells me the disks are good and there is probably an issue with the backplane. Drives are SCSI u320. I have a replacement backplane I'm about to install. The RAID is Perc 4e/Di. I'm hoping I can swap out the backplane hardware and retain the RAID config, etc... without incident. That should be the case, correct? Any advice on anything I should backup (just in case) beforehand? It's also been about 6-7 years since I've swapped out a backplane =)  If anyone has a youtube link documenting such, please post here... Thanks in advance!!!

As the backplane is merely the power/data connector for the drives, there should no surprises in replacing it, as the configuration is stored on the drives and on the controller. Worst case scenario ... the drive config will not match the controller config and you will have to import the Disk View (CTRL-M, Configure, View/Add) and save it.

Do you have another drive you can test with to try and rebuild the array?

That video is for the PE2850, not the R805. Is it the same procedure?
