Thanks for the info. Please post back after you have completed the swap to let us know if anything extra was involved. I'm sure someone else will want to do this and would love to know how.

Thanks for the reply. I've Been looking into it and it looks as if my 3.5 x 4 chassis just has a spacer plate mounted below the floppy. When I pull te floppy drive and the spacer plate out the 2 extra drive bays are there. I can slide in the drives without issue and they lock into place as they should, just missing the backplane for the drive to plug into. I'm thinking the chassis won't pose a problem at all.

Hello Justin

3.5"x6 backplane. What is the part number for this item on the 2950 III?

The part number for the 3.5"x6 backplane on a 2950 is PN610.

Just a heads up, the chassis is not a modular design that supports easily swapping configurations. You may be able to just swap out the two backplanes, but it may require modification of the chassis or plastics. We do not have a process in place for changing to a different backplane, so I don't know what would be involved.

Thanks

I certainly will.

Here is what I am talk about when I say a spacer is in place of the 5th and 6th drive caddy slot.

With the spacer removed and the floppy drive removed (no love lost there - haven't used a floppy drive since the invention of creating bootable CD's) two drive caddy's slide in and lock as they should.  The white cable inside the slot is the floppy cable which will be removed when the backplane is swapped out for the 3.5" x 6 backplane.

I'll have to wait for the backplane to arrive in the mail, ordered it today off eBay.  I also had to order a cable for the Perc 6i as the larger backplane uses two connections.

I have it up and running without issue.  There are two cables  The KC411 you have is the cable for the first 4 drives connected to the backplane.  The other cable, MC360 is a 10" that connects the last two drives in the server.

Here is a link to the cable you are needing.

We are doing the same thing - I've got the backplane in, things insert just fine from the looks of it. Except ... for the cables we received.  We apparently ordered KC411 - which is a 6" cable, which is about 4" too short. :(

Perchance -what cable did you order, Sapper?  It looks to me as though you didn't intend on connecting the backplane to the SAS RAID card already present (I could be wrong...)?
