Poweredge drive failure 0:1:17

We have a Dell PowerEdge R730 and the hard drive 0:1:17 has failed. I am unable to determine the drive bay it is in. There are 14 drive bays on the front and 2 on the back. I tried Dell Open Manage to make it blink, but do not see any drives blinking. During POST the message 1 virtual drive partially degraded displays.  Any ideas?

Hi @Benawall,

Can you confirm that the server is R730 or R730XD? As R730, it has no capability to install flex bay at the rear. https://dell.to/3xudbiJ

If it's R730XD, the failed drive might be inside the chassis which blink does not work. Can you try opening the chassis cover to check for any internal drives.

you can check whether any DE is connected through the controller, or else any other storage is connected to the server, a SS can help us much better see what exactly is going on.

Hello, there is no other storage connected.  The drive repeatedly attempts to rebuild and fails. Thank you.

Hello, I confirmed that the server is a R730XD.  I will open the chassis cover to look inside as suggested. Thank you.

Hello, we need to know what you'd like to achieve. What kind of configuration would you like to have, what HDD tray you want...

Disk labelling starts from 0 hence the disk is of back side, so verify the Serial number of the failed drive, the power off the Server , remove the last drive and confirm it if required replacement replace it

size of your disk 2.5 or 3.5 let us know cause there are 3 models in 730XD.

hope the last drive is causing the issue and a replacement was done and issue is resolved.

Hello, we found 4 drives inside the chassis.  It was in the last hard drive bay.
