PowerEdge R620 - Multiple read errors
Good day!
I have a PowerEdge R620 server with a PERC H710P Mini (Embedded) RAID controller.
Today the system started to work slower and in the logs of the MegaRade Storeage Manager I see duplicate lines like
Controller ID: 0 Unexpected sense: PD
= -:-:7Multiple read errors, CDB = 0x28 0x00 0x03 0xf8 0xff 0x80 0x00 0x00 0x38 0x00 , Sense = 0xf0 0x00 0x0b 0x03 0xf8 0xff 0x8c 0x16 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x11 0x03 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x80 0x0a 0x17 0x2e 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00
Controller ID: 0 Unexpected sense: PD
= -:-:7Multiple read errors, CDB = 0x28 0x00 0x03 0xf1 0x4f 0x80 0x00 0x00 0x80 0x00 , Sense = 0xf0 0x00 0x0b 0x03 0xf1 0x4f 0xaf 0x16 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x11 0x03 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x80 0x0a 0x17 0x2e 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00
I checked all drives in MegaRade Storeage Manager and found that drive 6 has Media Error Count = 9 and drive 7 has Media Error Count = 410
Both of these disks (WD6001BKHG) are included in Span 1 of a RAID-10 array (there are 4 disks in total)
In the OMSA logs, I also see lines of the following form
Unexpected sense. SCSI sense data: Sense key: 5 Sense code: 24 Sense qualifier: 0: Enclosure 0:1 Controller 0, Connector 0
Please tell me how to diagnose the problem and what should I do first?

Hi Souldriwer,
You could check the Sense Key with this article: https://dell.to/3dSXicl
There you could see that you have a Hardware Error the faulty disk should be replaced.
Please tell me if you have further questions.

Thank you. The 3-11-00 is an Unrecoverable Read Error, where the 5-24-00 is an Invalid Field in CDB. What I would suggest you do to start would be to update the BIOS, iDrac, and raid controller to the latest versions, this will ensure the issue seen isn't caused by it being out of date.
Let me know.

Thanks for the answer!
I have 3-11-0 and 5-24-0
Doesn't the hardware error match sense key = 4?

I think this is not related to outdated software, since the system has been working stably for several years
Can you please tell me if I can temporarily disconnect the problem disk from the RAID-10 array so that the system does not work so slowly until I get a new one for replacement?
The problem disk is included in a RAID-10 array consisting of 4 disks
And what is the best way to do it?

Hi,
it would be best if you replace it when you have the new one.
Alternate Solution that you do a Backup and run it from the backup.

Thank you!
In this case, can I use any disk of the same or larger capacity, but from a different manufacturer and without dell mark?

Could you explain in more detail
The "same" speed or "not less"?
