PowerEdge R740 Ram

In order to increase the capacity of my server, I purchased 2 RAM modules of 32 GB each with a speed of 2900 MHz. Currently, my server is equipped with 2 RAM modules of 16 GB each, running at 2400 MHz. However, the server is not detecting the new 32 GB RAM modules; it recognizes that there is RAM present, but its status is unknown. I have already tried swapping modules and testing with only one processor, but it still fails to recognize the capacity and specifications of the new RAM. I am unsure if there is a need to change any settings in the BIOS. Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Infraestructura_TI,

In my opinion it sounds like incomaptible dimms. Would you confirm the make, model, and part number of the dimms you are trying to add, that way I can confirm if they are supported or not?

Let me know.

Hello,

You indicated you purchased 2 RAM modules of 32 GB .

The image shows a 64G DIMM.

Can you tell us the capacity of the other DIMM you purchases?

Is it the same part number as the 64G you posted?

Could you also post picture of the two 16G DIMMs?

There are some DIMMs that cannot be mixed: such as RDIMMs and LRDIMMs must not be mixed.

Have you reviewed the System Memory Guidelines: Owners manual Page 61

https://dell.to/3MQutPg

Could you confirm you are on the latest BIOS 2.19.1?

@Dell -Charles R I apologize, I made a mistake. The modules that were purchased are 64 GB, not 32 GB, and I checked the BIOS updates, which are currently in version 2.19.1. The 64 GB modules were tested without the 16 GB ones to confirm that this is not the issue

What is your BIOS memory mode?

Have you tried BIOS memory mode: Optimizer Mode ?

Are you saying if the 64G DIMMs, one in A1 and B1, work ok if they are the only ones in the server?

Does it works ok if the 16G DIMMs, in A1 and B1, are the only ones in the server?

Two configurations you can try:

64G -A1, 16G-A2

64G -B1, 16G-B2

Also Try:

64G -A1, 16G-A7

64G -B1, 16G-B7

I do see a discrepancy in the 64G DIMM part number you have and the Dell part number.

64G: CVFBY is your DIMM, CVF is Dell DIMM

Your DIMM: M393A8G40MB2-CVFBY

Dell DIMM: M393A8G40MB2-CVF

Dell Pn#W403Y -DIMM,64GB,2933,2RX4,16G,DDR4,R

64GB, RDIMM, 2933MHz, DDR4, 1x64G, 8K, 288 Pin, 2Rx4, Dual Rank, Registered, 1.2V, Error Correction Code

16G are identical

Your DIMM: HMA82GR7AFR8N-VK

Dell DIMM : HMA82GR7AFR8N-VK

Dell PN#DFK3Y - DIMM,16GB,2666,2RX8,8G,DDR4,R

16GB, DIMM, 2666MHZ, Registered, DDR4, 288 Pin, Dual Rank, 1.2V, Error Correction Code

If it still doesn't work could you post an image of the error you get?

You may try the Dell 64G DIMM if the ones you have still do not work.

@Dell -Charles R When connecting the modules as you instructed, it only detects the 16 GB memories. I have attached the image. I will try the other configurations you sent; in this case, I configured it as 64G - A1, 16G - A2 / 64G - B1, 16G - B2.

@Dell -Charles R Another piece of information to demonstrate that it only detects 2 slots of 16 GB RAM, despite having the 64 GB modules connected.

@Dell -Charles R Now I tried the second configuration you sent, 64G - A1, 16G - A7 - 64G - B1, 16G - B7, and I am getting this error.

Hello Pares,

Thank you for the update.

The 16G DIMMs work fine in A1 and B1 as the only DIMMs installed.

The 64G DIMMs do not work in A1 and B1 as the only DIMMs installed.

We verified the slot works.

You may try the Dell 64G DIMM

Dell Pn#W403Y -DIMM,64GB,2933,2RX4,16G,DDR4,R

This is a Service part number and does not come up on the web page. You need to call Sales and ask for the Spare Part Department for a quote and purchase.
