PowerEdge T110 with S100 RAID controller Windows Server 2019
So it seems that the S100 RAID controller isn't compatible with Windows Server 2012 and above. In this case I'm trying to install Server 2019. The existing system has a bunch of drives configured in RAID for storage. I'm trying to determine what is the best course of action. Is there a controller that can be upgraded to without having to move the data off the drives and reconfigure with the new RAID controller or will we have to migrate the data from and back again?

Hello
I think there is a 2012 driver for the S110. Some have been able to use drivers for newer S-series controllers and get them to work with older controllers. That would not be supported, so I'm not sure if it will work.
Regarding data migration, there would not be a controller you can install that would be compatible with Windows Server 2019 and allow migration. The virtual disks created on the S100 can only be migrated to another S100, S300, or S110. There may be newer S-series it can migrate, but they are all embedded controllers. You cannot install them in this system. The S300 is the only version of the controller that is not embedded, and it uses the same driver as the S100. You can find information about migration in the controller manuals.

I doubt any controller supported on the T110 would have a driver validated for 2019. There are two hardware controllers validated, and they will likely function with native SAS drivers. The SAS6iR and H200 are compatible with the T110. You can find a support matrix on the legacy tab of the PERC page.

I just installed an evaluation copy of Server 2019 Standard on a Dell PowerEdge T310 with a PERC S100 successfully. The server originally came with Server 2008 R2, so I went to Dell's site and downloaded the RAID driver for Server 2008, extracted it a folder (using 7zip), went into the folder and dove down into the "win200864" folder and copied the drivers to an empty USB stick formatted in NTFS. During the Server 2019 install, when I got to the window to choose my partition, I clicked "Load driver" and pointed it to the USB stick. Tada! All of the partitions from the old OS loaded, and I then deleted them and re-partitioned them the way I wanted and finished out the install.
