"That was true 15 years ago. Today, a SAS backplane/cable and SAS controller are sufficient to use SAS or SATA drives - no interposer is required."

T140 does not have a backplane.

@DELL-Chris M  might have more information about the parts as well as the cables etc.  I do not have access to the PPID database.  This server is very old and well past EOL EOS.

So I disagree entirely. Giving the OP a solution that does not exist is not good for the user.

Look at my post with pictures of the drives as well as the controller in the PCI-E slot.

The caveots about F6 AHCI Mass storage drivers still applies regardless of the server version 2003 2008 2012 2016 etc.

The drivers are not one click water chicken install.

They are cabs nested within exe files nested within ISO or ZIP or otherwise.  You must extract down to the file level for the drivers.  Any containers must be formatted and configured via the RAID BIOS before ANY OS can be installed.

T140 support RAID controller. Below link have the details on same

https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/poweredge-t140/pet140_ts_pub/storage-controller-specifications?guid=guid-f74c619b-e999-4d4a-a21e-26a8fb68e840&lang=en-us

You can have both SAS and SATA drive in same RAID controller. Please note while creating virtual disk you can not mix SAS and SATA disk on same virtual disk. You will be able to create a virtual disk with all SATA drives on the server and another virtual disk with all SAS drives on the server.

Hope this clarify

"SATA Drives require an interposer to convert to sas"

That was true 15 years ago. Today, a SAS backplane/cable and SAS controller are sufficient to use SAS or SATA drives - no interposer is required.

If you have an add-in storage card (H730 or H330), you CAN RAID SAS and/or SATA drives on your machine.

If you are using the onboard [SATA] controller (RAID-enabled is called the S140 or in AHCI mode), you can ONLY use SATA drives, not SAS. You can use SATA, but you can only use SAS if there is a cable to connect them and there is a PERC in the integrated storage slot.

Just note Shine's caveat though: you can have either/or or both SAS/SATA in the server, but they cannot be mixed in a virtual disk (I.e. you cannot mirror a SATA drive with a SAS drive, etc.).
