PowerEdge T410
Hello all,
I joined this community in hopes someone can help with an issue I have.
I have a used PowerEdge T410 with the perc 6/i controller installed. For my purposes I will not be using a RAID configuration in this server.
I attempted to disable the controller in the bios and the option is not there.
I received the machine without any drives and I am attempting to use a drive of my own I know has a valid copy of Windows. I can see the size of each drive installed from within the bios so I know they are being read by the controller and motherboard.
Is there a way for me to bypass, or turn off the controller.
The only other option I see is to pull the backplane and RAID controller and connect using SATA. If so then I loose the 6 bays worth of storage space unless I get a PCI SATA adapter, but I don’t know how I’d power them all since I think the power supply only has 2 SATA power connectors.
Thanks for reading. ANY help would be Much appreciated. Thank you.

Hello,
why don't you use PERC 6/i with only your hard drive in RAID0?
You can create a RAID0 with only 1 drive without formatting it and it will be seen as non raid volume.
I cannot help you in connecting a Drive bypassing backplane as it is not supported by Dell.
Thanks

Hello,
yes you can, of course after having performed a full backup of the drive
https://dell.to/33DlZ85
Here you can see how to create Virtual disk (page 85).
Of course you need to do it without initialize the virtual disk.
Thanks

Marco,
I understand doing things according to protocol.
I did not know I can use RAID0 without formatting the drive. Will I be able to add additional drives in RAID0 configuration and have them run independently from each other?
This would solve my issue for sure!

Marco,
Thank you very much for your assistance with my T410. I was able to configure each drive individually in RAID0 (without initializing) and have Windows see data on all drives.
Again, thank you for your help and knowledge!

Hi,
I need to do the same thing but with SSDs instead of spindle drives and my controller indicates the device is not recognized.
Please advise.
Cheers,
Brent
