Question on SAS 6/iR controller card
Does the JW063 shown at

have one x4 or two x4 SAS internal ports?
Do specify the source---personal knowledge or photo interpretation or specs

Thank you. That link is to the SAS 6/iR card but not JW063. I am looking for information specific to JW063--it is conceivable one of the x4 ports has been disabled. Silly possibility, I know but want this point to be confirmed.

All SAS 6/iR controllers have two ports. Is it concievable that someone "disabled" one of the ports? Sure, just like it is possible that someone force-flashed a 2950 server with NF 500 firmware ... EXTREMELY unlikely. If it has been flashed and one of the ports is disabled, it would no longer be a SAS 6/iR. There are probably a dozen different possible part numbers for this controller - based on when, where, and by whom they were actually manufacturered. Get your SAS 6/iR from a reputable reseller - or from Dell - and there won't be any problem. If you buy it from MrModsNHacksAlot on eBay, then anything goes.

The problem is the almost complete absence of info on SAS 6/iR cards. The cards seems identical but are specified for different servers. JW063 is supposedly compatible with the recent set of Precision Workstations but only refurbished ones are available at Dell.

I'm not sure exactly what else you want. There is only one SAS /iR card. It is not made by a single company or in a single location (this is to prevent things like the flooding in Thailand from affecting supply), so there is more than one actual part number for that same card. The card is sold in two ways ... as an "integrated" card and as an expansion card. The only difference is the housing ... the integrated card comes with a sled for mounting in systems with a dedicated/integrated slot for the controller, like the 2950 or R710; the expansion card comes with the rear case slot cover as a typical PCIe expansion card does (with no external ports).
I have five rack servers with a SAS 6/iR, four of them with part number JW063 ... what do you want to know?
