Raid 5 Drive blinking amber/ Replacement Steps

My client has an R320 with 4 disks in Raid5, One drive was blinking amber and I took it out with system on and replaced it. There were no lights on drive after this replacement. I assume that this might not be a hot swappable drive. So I am planning on installing OMSA  and then will power down server and insert the replacement drive. Then power on and see what happens in the OMSA. Does this sound reasonable and I am open to any and all possible tips and suggestions!

RHein1962,

I would start with accessing the Physical Disks page on the controller and verifying if the drive is being seen, and if so what is its current status.  Also would you confirm the part number of the drive, so I can verifyt it is compatible.

Now if the drive is visible in the controller Physical Disks page, then you should be able to assign it as a hotspare and it should rebuild to the Virtual Disk.

Let me know if this helps.

better to power down the Server enter into raid bios and check the disk status, some times it happens that the LED of the disk caddy does not come up that doesn't mean that the drive is faulty.

good luck..!!
