RAID Controller Card: Perc h730p Dell R730

Hi All, from my research I see varying answers to my issue and just want to get some help here.

Currently, I have 6 X 600GB HDD's in a RAID-5 config. I would like to add 2 X 600GB to the existing RAID. Is this possible or will I have to rebuild?

I see an option to reconfigure virtual disks, but also on that menu structure, its looking for the new RAID type. I am not sure if I leave it at 5 and add the new disks, will this expend the current, or wipe the data and configure a new RAID.

Any help, would be great.

Thanks,

James.

Djsim101,

You would need to do a Reconfigure to perform a Online Capacity Expansion, but when doing so you do have Raid options in there to do a Raid Level Migration, if you so choose. Expanding the Virtual Disk doesn't impact the data, but I would recommend getting a complete backup of the data anytime you do anything in the Virtual Disks. If you follow this link it will take you to a walkthrough on the process.

Let me know if this helps.
