Raid5 foreign Config Importing - 1 disk missing

Hi everyone.

we have Dell EMC server. Initially raid5 was configured using three disks. Somehow along the way one of the disks was removed from the server and it has been some time. Recently we faced OS failure and one of IT personel removed the two disks from the server and cleared raid configurations from controller settings. Now we are trying to import foreign configurations from the two disks. The controller is able to detect raid 5 configuration on the disks but it says that it is not importable. It says that one of the disks is missing.

I know that raid5 can withstand 1 disk failure and the controller can rebuild data if the failing disk is replaced with a new disk. At this point I’m wondering, if we put a new empty disk, can we successfully import foreign configurations by relying on two functioning disks?

Hello thanks for choosing Dell.

“IT personel removed the two disks from the server and cleared raid configurations from controller settings”

I’m sensing something went wrong from here. And I don’t think what you wish to achieve is possible. Sorry I can’t be of much help.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.
