Replacing drives on a RAID 5 configuration
I have one drive that was getting read errors. Ran diag and found several bad areas on drive. What is the procedure for replacing this drive with a new one. Do you format, rebuild? System will not boot so I only have the bios setup to work with. config is raid 5 3 disks no spares.

1) shut down server
2) take out damaged harddisk
3) place a new one (a new harddisk musb be the same size as the others in RAID)
4) turn on server
5) go in bios RAID (Ctrl+M) and make a new disk as a hot spare. save.
6) restart
7) and after loaded your OS, RAID 5 must take a hot spare disk in its RAID area.
that's all.
PS
it's not so good for RAID 5 to have only 3 disk. this is minimum for RAID 5 and you don't have any protection against hardware error. If you want to have some protection for RAID 5 you should have at least 4 harddisk on RAID 5 or 3 harddisk + 1 hotspare disk. In your situation you can lose some data.
