Replacing failed disk - R310 - Perc H200 - RAID 1
I have a DELL PowerEdge R310 running Windows Server 2008 and RAID 1 with a PERC H200 controller. One of the disk drives (Seagate SAS 300G - ST9300605SS) went bad and I replaced it with a new drive of the exact same type. However, the server is not adding the new drive to the RAID. It recognizes that the drive is in the cpu but is listed with a status of "Foreign". What do I need to do to get the server to add the new drive to the RAID. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Make sure you use the mounting holes that put the drive CLOSEST to the backplane, regardless of how they are labeled.

Hi jimijenti,
I'm going to move your message to the PE storage forums for help with this question. Good luck!

You must first CLEAR its foreign config, then the disk can be rebuilt (assign as hot-spare if it doesn't begin automatically). You can do this in the OpenManage software (Storage, PERC, Information/Configuration, Foreign/Clear from dropdown) or in the CTRL-R utility.

Problem: Two replacement HDD are not recognized by RAID controller and server. I went through the RAID controller bios including upgrading the bios as well as reinstalling Windows server 2016 Standard, computer bios, everything I could think of and search on the web. The closest I got to a solution was initializing the drives but I can not get any of my initialization tools to recognize the HDD.
I replace two of my HDD on my legacy Dell PowerEdge R310 with RAID Controller PERC H200. I purchased 2x 2TB HDD to replace 2x 250GB HDD in a RAID 10 configuration. I deleted the RAID configuration and reinstalled Windows 2016 Server Standard. I am not sure what else to do.
Please help.

Drives faulty? Are the drives showing as foreign (you can't do anything with foreign drives until you clear the config)? Incompatible drives (what is the make/model)?

I don't think the drives are faulty. They are (2):
DELL 2TB 7200RPM 3.5INCH 32MB BUFFER SAS 6.0 GBPS
ENTERPRISE HARD DRIVES. BRAND NEW.
As far as them showing up, I do not see them listed anywhere in any of the BIOS (RAID or Computer). Is there a specific place to see that?
I use CTRL-C to get into the PERC H200 Bios successfully but only see the two old drives.

Are they in hot-swap trays?

So, they are cabled, and not hot-swap? Sorry, but "tray", I meant a hot-swap tray and not a simple mounting tray/bracket :)
If power AND data are connected (you may have a cable with a dual connector or individual power and data cables), then check to make sure the controller hasn't flagged the drives as foreign. You can't do anything with a foreign disk until you have cleared the foreign configuration, but once cleared, you can simply configure it in an array (no initialization needed).

I am not sure if there was another set of holes for screws in the HDD but in the tray there was only one place where the screws can go.
Ate you thinking that the HDD is not getting power or it is not connected properly?
The cable is firmly attached to the HDD, that is one thing I checked when I spent a significant amount of time trying to figure it out. I did not know if there was a limitation to the RAID controller preventing it or if there was somewhere I needed to initialize the HDD.
