SAS 5/iR RAID Controller in a non-Dell system

Does the SAS 5/iR adapter only work in Dell Systems?

 

I have tried one in a non-Dell system and although the card and the attached drives correctly recognised during the boot process the system hangs.  When you try and enter the 5/iR's setup utility with Ctrl-C the system also hangs.  If I remove any attached drives and connect the drives to the onboard SATA controller then the system will boot and Windows Vista will correctly recognise the controller.

 

The motherboard and controller are using the latest firmware.  I have seen some posts on various forrums about enabling INT19, done that and did not work.

 

Does anyone have any ideas?
