Setting up RAID1 on T420 with PERC H310
Hello,
I would like to setup a RAID1 mirror with 2 x 300 GB SAS drives as 1 logical ~300GB drive for the OS and primary partition. Unfortunately, I have only 1 of the physical drives with me at the moment and I need to get the system up and running as soon as possible.
What is the best way to go about this such that I can add the second drive at a later point with minimal downtime and OS/data issues?
Thank you!

You can try to configure a single-disk RAID 0 with your drive. I don't think the H310 can do this (its predecessors, the H200 and SAS 5/6 could not). If you can configure a single-disk RAID 0, then you can easily convert it on the fly to a 2-disk RAID 1 when you get your second disk. The PERC H700/H710 controllers can do this. If you can't do it, then you are looking at a backup/restore scenario. If downtime is more important than configuration, then you could use the disks in non-RAID mode and simply mirror in the OS.

Yes, I did ... it's fixed now.
This controller's predecessors could not do this, so I'm doubtful that it can, HOWEVER, it is listed with the PERC 5/6/7/8 controllers in the OpenManage documentation as being able to convert RAID 0 to RAID 1, so it may be able to. It doesn't take much to try it ... boot to CTRL-R and attempt to configure a single disk as RAID 0 ... if it requires two disks for a RAID 0 or striping, then you won't be able to do it.
