T110 converting RAID to non-RAID
We have a T110 running Centos 5.9 with H200 PERC and 2x1TB drives in a RAID configuration.
The machine is being retired from server critical role and I would like to "switch" to a non-RAID configuration without losing existing data on disk 0. Possible?

Sorry ... apparently I left this window open longer than I thought without refreshing :)
The H200 DOES support non-RAID, so it should show up in the OS ... you leave it UNCONFIGURED in the RAID BIOS, so you can skip that. Previous controllers of this line did not allow you to create a single-disk RAID 0, so I'm unsure if that would even be an option on the H200.

Unfortunately there is not a way to do this without data loss, deleting the virtual disk in the controller will not allow the data to be read as a pass through drive and it will just see it as a blank drive.

In Windows, you often need to Initialize the disk in Disk Management before it can be seen/used by the OS as a storage device. I don't know Linux that well, but maybe there is a similar function to detect the drive?

RAID and non-RAID are not compatible ... switching from one to the other will destroy the data on the disk (or at least will not be recognized). You will need to do a backup/restore or rebuild.

If you add a new drive to a Linux system you have to deal with it in a similar way to Windows - I use WebMin, for example to partition etc.. but it will always show up.
" theflash1932" - thanks for the letting me know I can leave the new drive "UNCONFIGURED" in the RAID BIOS. That was what was confusing me ...
I just got OMSA working so that is a big help.

How are you trying to install OMSA? From the bin file or using the repository online?

Well CentOS 5.9 definitely did not see the new drive after it was connected (no changes were made to the PERC BIOS).
I have been trying to get OMSA running on CentOS without much luck ( that's another story...)

Ok, makes sense, then assume I leave the existing configuration alone, but add a third drive. I gather that can be added as a non-RAID drive?
I tried to do that , but got severely lost in the PERC BIOS configuration and backed out not wanting to erase data by mistake.

You shouldn't have to do anything in the controller for the OS to see the drive if it is not part of an array, however pass through disks are not supported on this controller and while it should work if it doesn't you may have to create a single drive raid 0 in order for the drive to show up.
