Unrecoved read error
I have a Dell Poweredge 4400 Tag# JX0BP01. We are running Netware 6.0 sp2. I have recently began recieving error messages from the Perc Controller. The messages I am getting are:
PERC2-2.70-0
ID<0:01:0>; ERROR EVENT [COMMAND:0X28]
PERC2-2.70-0
ID<0:01:0>; MEDIUM ERROR, BLOCK RANGE 663744:663807
PERC2-2.70-0
ID<0:01:0>; UNRECOVERED READ ERROR
I am assuming that I am looking at a pending drive failure here. I have run vrepair on the Netware volumes but it finds no errors. Is the any way to locate which drive is failing, if that is indeed what is happening? What is the recommended troubleshooting sequence for this error?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Same advice, different file downloads.
FYI, in this ID string - ID<0: 01:0>, the bolded section corresponds to the SCSI ID of the problem hard drive.
Dell Server System BIOS, PowerEdge 2500 / 2500SC, A07
FileName: 2500-A07.exe [520 KB]
Dell ESM Firmware, PowerEdge 2500 / 2500SC, A54
Filename: a54cust.exe (405 KB)
Note: Extract the files to a DOS bootable floppy disk. Boot the server to this floppy disk, and run smflsh.exe.
Adaptec Perc 2/si, 2/qc, 3/si, 3/di, Driver, Windows 2000, v.2.8.0.6085, A15
FileName: W2K-2806085.exe [259 KB]
Adaptec PERC3/Di Firmware, PowerEdge 2500 / 2500SC, PowerVault 750N, v.2.8.0.6089, A08
FileName: PE2500-280_6089.exe [1 MB]

The hard drive with the bad block is SCSI ID 1.
Brfore replacing the drive, I would highly recommend upgrading the Perc firmware / driver to the latest revisions. If necessary also upgrade the System BIOS and ESM Firmware:
Dell Server System BIOS, PowerEdge 4400, A11
FileName: 4400-A11.exe [525 KB]
Dell ESM Firmware, PowerEdge 2550, 4400, A56
Filename: a56cust.exe (405 KB)
Note: Extract the files to a DOS bootable floppy disk. Boot the server to this floppy disk, and run smflsh.exe.
Adaptec Perc 2/si, 2/qc, 3/si, 3/di, Driver, Netware 6.x, v.2.8.0.6075, A01
FileName: NW6A01DR.exe [65 KB]
Adaptec PERC3/Di, Firmware, PowerEdge 4400, v.2.8.0.6089, A13
FileName: PE4400-280_6089.exe [1 MB]
Adaptec Perc 2/si, 2/qc, 3/si, 3/di, Netware APPS, v.2.8.0.5973, A14
FileName: Netware_app_280-5973-A14.exe [1 MB]

What is the recomended sequence for applying these patches? Which should be done first? Are there any gottcha's?
Thanks again

I listed the upgrades in the order of installation. The only "gotchas" from a hardware standpoint is do not interrupt any of the firmware flashes. I am not fluent in Netware, so I do not know of "gotchas" installing the driver.
As always Backup, Backup, Backup, before begining.
thanks
