Using 2 virtual disk drives on same RAID 5 array
Hi,
I have a Dell PowerEdge R760xs with 10x960gb SSDs installed in a Raid 5 array.
Instead of having a big single virtual disk drive, i configured one small virtual drive for the VMWARE OS and another big virtual drive for the VMs.
Is there any disadvantage to this configuration? Normally we install the VMWARE OS in a SD card and the VMs in the single virtual drive.
Best Regards.

The SD cards a depricated and not the favorite choice today.
There is nothing wrong with 2 or VDs on a single disk(Raid) group. You should select 128GB for the first one and install ESXi on.
There is one drawback when having more than one VD per diskgroup.... you cant expland the disk group by adding more disks. The Online Raid Expansion is only supportet and working with a single VD on a raid.
