Using smart with Windows Server and Perc 6i

Question

Hello everybody,

I've got to set up a health-check on our server with a Perc 6i and after a long search without any usable results I am asking within this forum.

Is there a posibility to use the smart feature on Windows Server 2008 r2 and the Perc 6i?

If you need further information then just ask.

Yes both of those tools have a CLI, so you can do scripting, here is the manual for the server administrator CLI as it is the monitoring tool.

Use IE, add localhostoripaddressorhostname:1311 to the Intranet zone. Then try.

If not, the user must be a member of the local administrators group (domain admin is preferable). If using a domain user, do NOT choose the active directory login option.

Not exactly sure what you are trying to do ... the PERC 6 queries the drives' SMART data an alerts you to any potential issues with the disks (insignificant in the logs, significant in the form of a 'predicted failure' flag on the drive).  Or are you trying to find a way to query the SMART data yourself for some app?

Hi Dom,

The drives that are connected to the PERC6/I do report SMART status. The best way to monitor the drive and RAID array status is with our Server Administrator utility. http://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER01184977M/1/OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-WINX64-7.2.0-6945.exe For a health check on the server you may also want to run our online diagnostics utility and do a drive self-test. but do I got the oportunity to use the online tests with command line so i may bulit up a skript which is able to automatically run the test and interpret the results and warn me if necessary?

I know this is a three year old thread, but in the dumb question department, how do I log into the Server Administrator? It is not accepting the server's administrator password, and I can't find any documentation except installation. I assumed if it's not the existing server's admin password, there would be some default password, but with no docs, that does not help.

The main part I found last night. The big issue was that when I clicked on the desktop icon that was created when the software was installed, that came up to a different log in page, for which nothing seemed to work. However if I clicked cancel on that log in page, it brought up the Dell OpenManage log in page, and that worked fine with the domain admin credentials. Same thing if I pointed a browser directly to the IP and port 1311. Your last line confirmed the other part that I had also figured out last night.

As far as browser, I use I.E. ONLY if nothing else works. Firefox worked fine, so that's what I have used so far.

With IE and the site set to the Intranet zone, it will allow your current logon credentials to authenticate, so you don't even have to sign in if you are logged in with a user with the proper permissions.
