using u.2 nvme drives in T640

good morning,

the context: there is a used Dell T640 server with little hardware in it. A backplane is there ( no controller tho ).

the problem: I would like to understand if I can use the backplane to connect u.2 nvmes to it or should I purchase a "special nvme backplane"?
