verifying failed hardware component, I think it's the integrated H730 perc raid controller

Hi, all. I have a Dell R730xd server that just went (technical terms) splat.  The error message on the console (repeatedly within a few minutes after a reboot):

[ 266.404579] {1}[Hardware Error]: Hardware error from APEI Generic Hardware Error Source: 3

OK, so on an identical server (we purchased several, with the same specs at the same time) shows

root@ourserver:~# lspci -s 0000:02:00.0
02:00.0 RAID bus controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic MegaRAID SAS-3 3108 [Invader] (rev 02)

According to our invoice, we have

screen3629.jpg

Which seems like it's potentially replaceable (unless the bus controller is a different thing). I've been looking at

https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/poweredge-rc-h330_users-guide_en-us.pdf and

https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/poweredge-rc-h330_users-guide_en-us.pdf#unique_16

We purchased this in 2014, so of course the warranty is long gone (and that makes it tough to try and check my logic/thinking with a support ticket) but if I can source the 405-AAEG part and replace it (the data on the disks is backed up elsewhere) does that work? I'm just not entirely sure about the jump from the lspci info to the raid controller adapter ie, is the PERC the same thing as the raid bus controller or are those two different items?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Hi,
I can source the 405-AAEG part and replace it (the data on the disks is backed up elsewhere) does that work? I think it should work given the specification.

is the PERC the same thing as the raid bus controller or are those two different items? These are the same thing but H730 and H330 are different if that's what you're asking.

If you have access to iDRAC you can check hardware inventory for the device details with Bus, Device and Function number. you can check Lifecycle log to see whether it is showing any error.
