Dcpromo Overlapped I/O operation is in progress

I have been having a bit of a problem getting DCpromo to install on two Dell Power Edge 2900 servers.

Both servers are running Windows 2003 SR2 and have had all of the dell management software removed as well as using the most up-to-date firmware and hardware for the Raid controller.

When I run DC promo it stops the NET logon service then gives the error “Overlapped I/O operation is in progress” .

I have goggled this and found the MS KB article about 3rd party backup / disk scan software causing this problem (295712) and to the best of my knowledge there is no backup software, or live disk backup running on ether server.

The error happens regardless of weather I am making the servers additional DC’s in an existing domain or setting up a new domain controller. If I set up a test server using VM ware and run DCpromo to make the test server and additional DC in the domain it will happily do it.

The excising domain has had all the adprep (with switches /forestprep, /domainprep and the GP prep one as well) run on it with no errors.

Any suggestions would be welcome as I have been working on this for a while now and it is driving me round the bend
