File / Folder locked or in use

Greetings Everyone,

 

I've appended the computer information.

 

In short, I have several users who connect to shares on the server. Usually there are no problems. Several times a week though, when they try to move, rename, or delete a file or folder they get an error that the file or folder is in use. The problem continues until the server is rebooted.

 

I have gone in and checked the problem files and folders, and have been unable to handle them, even when I am the only person attached to the server.  The server does not show the file or folder to be open in Open File section of the Computer Management console.  I have tried the Process Explorer to find the process locking the file but there does not seem to be one.  When I check the System logs, I am finding an entry for an Ftdisk error within a day of the problems being reported.  When I reboot with ChkDsk error are found and are corrected.  The errors may well explain the file locking, but I am unable to find a reason for any of it or a way to stop it from happening. The servers and clients are up to date on patches.  The clients are running Windows XP Pro SP2, but I am starting to move them to SP3 now, to see if that improves things.  There was no change that I am aware of to the server, clients, domain, or network around the time the problems started.

Can find no process or person using the file / directory
Find Ftdisk error in logs. ChkDsk reports error, but corrects them.
