installing Server 2003 on 6300 fails

Question

Can anyone help?

I am having difficulty installing Windows Server 2003 on a PowerEdge 6300 [Service tag: H8VDJ].

I can get it to install ie. it boots to the CD and allows me to install the OS but on reboot, I get the message:

Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.
Could not read from the selected boot disk.
Check boot path and disk hardware. Please check the windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information.

I currently have Windows Advanced Server 2000 running but I need to upgrade it to 2003. I am sure I need several BIOS upgrades etc to get it to work but which?

are you using onboard scsi or perc ?   I would like to suggest you to check your HD health ,  and reinitialize your HD in perc tool if you are using perc .   And check whether perc card is supported from your CD .    I don't' think new 6300 BIOS will help .

THis is my current setup, which will not support server 2003 (it loses contact with the drives upon reboot)   The service tag is H8VDJ   The current BIOS is version 1.10 A10 The current ESM firmware is 5.16 The current Backplane Firmware is 5.33 The current Power Supply firmware is 2.34 The current Hot-Plug PCI is 1.17   From the boot screen the PERC info is American Megatrends, Inc PowerEdge RAID II Controller BIOS 1.47 7/17/1997 Standard Firmware version UC77   Adaptec 7890 BIOS version 2.01 DELL 001 Adaptec 7860 BIOS version 2.01 DELL 001 Message Edited by eeyore59 on 01-12-2005 05:01 PM
