Installing windows 7 on a poweredge 650

I've got a dell poweredge 650. and wondering if I am able to install windows 7 on it? Is there anything important that I need to know about? Thank you

Well, there are some things you should know:

  • It has no sound capability.
  • It has only a few (maybe 8) MB of video memory, so Aero or any graphic-intensive activity will not be possible.
  • It does not support add-in graphics ... you might be able to find something that will work, but it will be VERY hit/miss.
  • It may be fitted with a RAID controller.  If so, you will need to load drivers for it during the Windows install.
  • There is a very good chance that your processor is 32-bit only.
  • Drivers will not exist for some devices; you might be able to use Server 2008x86 drivers for some devices, including the RAID controller.

It is no longer needed for its original purpose .

I've written a ftp file server program that I want to put on it how ever my program is only compatible with windows 7.

My other use for it is to use it to browse the internet (basic html, text only) when my other computers/servers are unavailable for use.
