Loading System Settings-Can Not Access Login Screen

Question

We have a PowerEdge 2650 that froze up when performing a backup, we restarted the server but it locks up and just says 'loading system settings'. It stays this way for over 1hr-- should I just wait longer or what is the problem?

If you can get into safe mode, I would be tempted to delete the user profile,

Next step, an "over the top repair" install.

I would do a power down, restart, F8, choose 'last known good configuration' Even if it makes it to the logon screen, if you login, it will probably repeat this problem

thanks but tried that- same thing happens- still can't acccess login screen.
