NTP w/SUSE9.3 on a SC420? - Clock problems

I have a Poweredge SC420 with SUSE9.3 installed and I'm having trouble with the systems clock. Rebooting the system and setting the system clock causes two issues:

1. When linux comes up, the time is completely wrong (not even what the BIOS is set to).

2. On a reboot, I lose the set time again.

I was hoping NTP might help here by setting the time correctly on boot however it doesn't seem to be working at all. Any suggestions on what might be wrong?

Any ideads on what to do about my system clock? I can't imagine it's the battery. It's only about a year old.
