Poweredge 850 - Installing Windows Server 2012 R2 from scratch - Help required
Hi
I have a Poweredge 850 that used to have Linux Centos 7 on but now I want to test Windows Server 2012 R2 if possible.
I have set up a mirror Raid 1 using the software on the server boot options and tried to install Windows Server 2012 R2 from USB boot up but that get as far as showing the boot screen and then the Windows logo and then an error pops up saying
Your PC needs to restartPlease hold down the power button
Error Code : 0x000000C4
Parameters :
0x0000000000000091
0x000000000000000F
0xFFFFF801BE7E9A00
0X0000000000000000
I have rebooted and tried several times but to no avail.
I have the Install OS turned OFF in the BIOS.
I have tried downloading some drivers but when I tried to put them on a bootable USB they are not made for booting up.
I am at a loss and would love some guidance of what to do next please ?
I dont have a CD to create any boot CD hence me trying to do this via a bootable USB.
Thanks in advance
Martyn

Hi.
Thanks Robert for that. I will try and get Server 2008 but I dont think thats the fix for this.
Do none of the error codes mean anything ?
Can I install the OS without the Dell software to preload the drivers etc ?
Thanks

Hi
I want to apologise and say you are correct. Server 2008 r2 gets to the gui page of the setup.
Is there anything I can do to get 2012 on apart from upgrade from 2008 ?
Thanks again

Hi Robert.
I have downloaded all the ISO's and even extracted them and imported them into 1 ISO as it says but I dont have a CD Rom/DVD burner.
I have a diskpart set up USB that starts Windows installs OK at work but when I copy the Dell ISO's to boot up they dont work.
Do you have a USB utility that is recommended by Dell to import/Boot up these Dell updates ?
Sorry for all the questions.
Martyn

Have been trying to get 2012R2 installed on PE850 for weeks. All attempts have failed.
1. Tried to install 2012R2 Standard from DVD media, fails with message displayed above.
2. Tried to install 2012R2 Standard from USB ISO media, fails with message displayed above.
3. Installed 2008 server standard from USB ISO media, works.
4. Installed 2008R2 Standard from USB ISO media, works.
5. Installed 2012 Standard from USB ISO media, works.
a. Installed All Windows updates, recommended and optional.
b. Reboot PE850, boot fails with message above.
6. Reinstalled 2012 Standard from USB ISO media, works.
a. Installed All Windows updates, recommended only (no optional). Reboot PE850, works.
7. Insert USB stick with 2012R2 ISO image. Run Setup.exe from ISO image, Select Upgrade installation, goes through the install gyrations, fails at installation reboot with message above.
a. Rebooted and caught boot manager screen (gotta be quick). Bot manager options are to boot Setup (the failed 2012R2 install, and boot windows Server 2012 (the original 2012 Standard). Booted to original 2012 Standard.
b. Inspected 2012R2 installation attempt log files located in C:\Windows\Panther folder. Especially setupact.txt file. File contents indicate that every driver that Windows is trying to check is supported. Always figured the problem was that the Intel 82801GB chipset (ICH7 family) might not be supported by 2012R2, but apparently it is. Why 2008, 2008R2, 2012 all work and 2012R2 fails is still a BF mystery. Any help is appreciated.
9. Also used Double Driver to backup copies of the 2008R2 driver set but couldn't figure out how to get the 2012R2 install to use them.
So still very frustrated that I can't get 2012R2 installed. Any advice is welcomed.
