Hi,

Where exactly did you find this recommendation? I can't really find it anywhere in the documentation...

Thanks,

Not sure where you get that number.

ScaleIO requires at least 3 nodes. The more nodes and storage devices you'll have the more performance ScaleIO can generate. Obviously the type of media affects that as well.

Optimal really depends on the workload you are trying to deliver.

The following doc from community.

docu50679_Frequently-Asked-Questions--EMC-ScaleIO-November-2013  p 7

Question: What is the minimum number of nodes required?

Answer: The minimum number of nodes required for is three. For optimum performance, at least five nodes should be deployed. NVRAM and the types of media used will have an impact on performance, especially for smaller configurations.
