Cascading Snaps on PowerMax

Dear All Expert and specialized products,

We have a new PowerMax 2000 and we are learning snapvx. Everything has been working great until we try cascading snaps. So here is the scenario.

Source LUN = 2T (Server Production)

Target1 LUN= 2U (Server Pre-Production)

Target2 LUN = 30 (Server UAT1)

We took a snap of 2T and linked that snap to 2U. All the data is there as expected, Next we changed the data on 2U
Then we took a snap of 2U and linked to 30 however we are still getting data from 2T.

Could anyone draff the step by step how to do Cascading Snaps with powermax 2000? And how to roll back snap from 30 to 2U, or 30 to 2T,2T to 30, 2U to 2T,...

appreciate for your help!!

Best Regards,

Peang Suy (Mr.)

You may want to call phone support and have them help you with the configuration.

Hello... I am new to the Powermax but we migrated from a complex EMC solution to the new Powermax and in that migration I had to do the same; casacding snaps.

I had a SOURCE volumes and created a SNAP1 ; then linked-mounted to a host whereby this data was read-write.  Afterwards - I then took a snap of SNAP1  (called SNAP2)... and and again linked-mounted to another host.  All works well.  In fact its a regular process now....  One thing of interest that I stumbled upon during testing was that the CASCADED snapshot (SNAP2) had to wait for the data to 'destage'... meaning I couldnt do SNAP1 and then do SNAP2 straight away but had to wait for the data to destage....

How did you go?  I assume its all resolved....  Nonetheless - I am soon to start posting questions in this forum....as I too have a few questions about how it all works (especially Storage Groups....)....
