Hello GAZLEO,
If all you are doing is renaming, and not doing configuration changes you can do so as rename is non-disruptive. If you are doing any configuration changes then you will need to stop all IO on the host & put it in maintenance mode.

I would add one caveat that if the masking components (storage groups for example) are used as part of any automation (for example daily linked clone of prod to reporting), then if the names are changed it could have an impact. Something to consider.
