Download the document "EMC Host connectivity guide for AIX" P289 has all the information you require about this failover mode setting and other AIX system requirements for NDU operations on the CLARiiON.
Thanks to all who have responded, I think I have all the info I need.
I looked up the recommended Primus article, and found plenty about an NDU on a CLARiiON and what CAN happen with an attached AIX 5.3 host...thank you, good recommended reading.
I referenced EMC Host Connectivity Guide for IBM AIX P/N 300-000-608 Rev A16, page 289 and the page only had a reference to HACMP configuration, leading to VSD's and recoverablility.
Did you mean page 250? - AIX Host Prep? Here it states the minimum config parameters including Failover Mode 3
It also states the PowerPath versions 4.5.1 or higher support NDU on a CLARiiON, I'm using PowerPath version 5.1, so I believe I should be safe.
