Powermt Check = Device(s) not found

Good Morning,

We have a CX-300i Flare 2.24.301.5.016 (latest flare for i). I have connected a new Win2K server to the SAN, installed iSCSI initiator, Powerpath5.1.0 build 51-unlicensed mode, and Navisphere agent 6_24.2.5.0.

I have successfully mapped the drives from the server's SAN storage group on the server and that all seems fine, but when I check powerpath, the array, devices, and adapters don't show up.

From the SAN side, in Connectivity status, the server shows up as registered and logged in on A-0 and B-0 (the only 2 targets I log in since we're operating in unlicensed mode)

From the client side, if I execute a 'powermt check' I get "Device(s) not found.
same thing for 'Powermt display dev=all'

I have tried rebooting the servers a couple of times, stopping and restarting the agent service and the powerpath services - to no avail. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the agent and powerpath.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help..

can you look in connectivity status on Clariion ? Highlight initiator and select "Info"

The current setting is whatever it defaults to. I have not changed it - which is how my others are configured. And since it shows no paths on the client, I cant see how it is set.

thx

I thought I'd seen on navisphere somewhere it displayed that but I couldn't find it.

The FailOver mode is set to 1. Also, something possibly more telling is the fact that the IP address displayed is the for the nic connected to the customer network as opposed to the Storage Area Network.

When I configured iSCSI initiator, I configured it to use the SAN nic, and it correctly displays that IP addresss in the target portals

thx,

ka

it looks like navi agent is using the wrong ip address when registering with Navisphere ..search the forum or knowledge base on how to configure navi agent for multi home systems.

OK,

I was able to add an agentid.txt file, restart the services, and now the correct information displays when I check 'info' in connectivity status.

But I am still unable to see anything in the powerpath windows and 'powermt check' still displays 'Device(s) not found.

thx,

Alas, no soap.

Here is an additional symptom: I have 1 network share created on one of the array LUNs. I've noticed when I reboot, the folder loses it's share status. The folder itself is still there, but it's no longer shared and I have to go out and re-share it.

PS.

I also just noticed an error in the event log. EventID 570 from EmpcLogMsgs:
EMC PowerPath Error. API: in function EmpcDM_SetIOtoClones:
EmcpStatus_Lib_Err=-2, errCode=0x2

PPS

Found a little information for this error message under emc177071. It says if you get the error during migration (which isn't the case) to contact support but doesn't give any other useful info.....

Per the support group, I reinstalled PowerPath (a third time) and this time it came up and was able to see the SAN, devices and drives!

I am working with them on the second half of the issue - shares becoming unshared on reboot. They have directed me to a microsoft knowledgebase article:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=870964

That deals with this issue.
