RHEL4 U5

Will we need a new PowerPath to support RHEL 4 U5? If so, when can we expect it to be released?

We tested PP 5.0 build 157 with U5 and it did not work for us.

Any clarification as to what did not work????

I've been running PP 5.0 b157 on RHEL4U4 without problems.

I didn't go for 4.51 so I wouldn't have to upgrade PP when moving to Update 5 (fixing EXT3 ReadOnly on SAN bug).....

If so required, we need the PowerPath update soon.......

The partitions for /dev/sda are not visible or accessible once the powerpath module loads when using RH4 U5.

Same luns and powerpath work fine with RH4 U4.

Do you have a Celerra (EMC NAS) on site? If so, is it possible that the LUNs you're using for RH have previously been written to by Celerra?

If so, the Celerra signature (near the end of the volume) may have been left behind, which will cause PowerPath to "hide" the volume when it loads.

This shouldn't occur with PPath v4.6 and above, but you never know...

See knowledgebase article emc62657 for more details.

Fair enough. That's clearly not the problem then!

# uname -s -r -v -m -p -i -o
Linux 2.6.9-55.ELsmp #1 SMP Fri Apr 20 16:36:54 EDT 2007 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
# powermt version
EMC powermt for PowerPath (c) Version 5.0.0 (build 157)

Haven't seen any issues thus far.

Load an older kernel version less than 2.6.9-55 on REHS 4 UP5
Change default boot option in /etc/grub.conf

Kernel version below 55 are subject to the ext3-readonly bug.....

so that's no real option...

we just need a PowerPath that works with the latest RHEL version.

None of the release notes for powerpath mention RH 4 update 5 yet so I still don't think this is offically supported even if it seems to work for some people's configurations.
