132T Inventorys after adding tapes-Veritas isn't refreshed

Why is it that our PowerVault 132T performs a painstaking inventory after I add tapes to the magazine, but this inventory is not reflected in Veritas 9.1?  Is there a way to cancel the annoying task of loading and unloading all 23 tapes?

Any time you manually add tapes to the library, Backup Exec (BE) will need to know about the newly added cartridges.  To update BE, you have to right-click on the rebot icon in the BE device manager, than click on INITIALIZE.  Once that is completed, click on SCAN.  This is the only way BE will know that a cartridge has been added/removed.

When cartridges are manually added, the library has to scan for all slots to see which cartridges are installed.  I will double check if there is a way to avoid  the library doing an inventory.

Thanks, that was the answer I was looking for.  Running the initialize job corrects the entries in the partition table without performing and physical activity on the robot.  I was running the Inventory job on the partitions to get the correct information, which forces the loading and unloading of tapes.

The 132T is a replacement for our 128T, which has been moved to a different location.  The 128T had the barcode reader on the picker which saved all of this loading/unloading.  I guess you get what you pay for?

Well this is a long time after this was originally posted, but did you ever fine out if you can turn off that initial slot check when tapes are put in using the magazines?
