51f - Can't connect through serial port

I am trying to configure the IP, but I can't connect through the serial port. I know my cable, etc. is ok, as I can connect to Vixel switches, but using Hyperterm I see nothing when I turn on the 51f. There are no fault conditions that I can detect.

Is there anything I can do?

It's highly likely that the Vixel switches to which you are connecting use a null modem cable for the serial connection.  The vixel switch documentation on Emulex's site confirms that many of their switches used lull modems.  The PV51F switch requires the use of a straight through serial cable.  A cable would have shipped with the unit.

The PV51F requires a straight-through serial cable. A Null-modem serial cable won't work. Which type are you using?

The hyperterminal settings would be 9600,8N1,None.

I did get the baud rate, etc. right, but I looked at the documentation for Vixel 7100 switch I connected to, and it does use a null modem.

Thanks to both of you.
