745N RIS 2003 OEM SATA woes
Hi,
I'm trying to RIS a 745N to 2003 Server Standard SP1 (RIS image, which we will eventually install 2003 R2 on, which I might add I have done successfully on two 725's).
Problem: RIS won't recognize the SATA drives (probably doesn't have controller driver) so it sees no hard drive to install to. Before you point the finger at faulty hardware, know that the 745N in question in currently running 2003 Server Appliance Edition ok, however you can't install 2003 R2 on Appliance Edition.
I've been successful at getting the network drivers to load for RIS, but still am having trouble with the SATA controller/drive recognition.
I have tried the OEM RIS method as described in:

I have also tried to boot to USB CDROM (with 2003 SP1 media), but that doesn't work either.

There is a TEXTMODE folder under my $oem$ folder (in which I have the txtsetup.oem and all the .inf, .cat and .sys files)

I've added the SCSI 39160, Intel SATA 31244 and Cerc7427 OEM drivers to txtsetup.oem and it still doesn't see the drives.

I had tried that one too. We put the PERC drivers in there for future use.
We finally got it to work. It turned out to be the Intel SATA controller drivers. We had to create a Hardware ID (HardwareIds.scsi.gd31244) for the Intel drivers. Here's my successful txtsetup.oem:

The raid card in the 745 is an Adaptec CERC SATA1.5/6ch, the drivers are available from the support site.
Most of your entries relate to scsi raid contollers and 1 ata promise contoller.

Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.
I have a Win 2003 RIS server set up on the network and the windows setup isn't seeing the array. I am trying to install win 2003 r2 on my PV 745n.
I have the four SATA drives set up in a raid 5 array right now. Could this be causing the problem?
I have tried installing from CD but I get the same error. I have also tried using the latest Dell server administration CD (the one to prep an OS install) but that didn't work either.

This is a PV745n with the hardware SATA controller.
I got the CERC driver from the Dell Support page for this particular server.
I got the Intel 31244 driver from the Intel Support site.
These driver files are situated under both the following paths:
D:\RemoteInstall\Setup\English\Images\WINDOWS\i386\$OEM$\$1\CERCSATA
D:\RemoteInstall\Setup\English\Images\WINDOWS\i386\$OEM$\TEXTMODE
I'm new to RIS deployments so I'm hoping one of you can point out my mistake. Please be very descriptive in any response you can provide.
