Adding an LTO to existing SCSI

I have a Poweredge 1800 running Win2003 Server.  Have a Adaptec 39160 Ultra 160 SCSI card with a Dell (Seagate) LTO -1 internal Tape Drive.  Would like to add an External LTO2 Tape  attaching to the External ports of the SCSI card.

When I do, the New External LTO drive is recognized but the old internal LTO1 is not.

Can this be done?  If so, how?

sounds like you have both drives on the same channel one internal and one external...can't do that. What you want to do is have 1 drive (the LTO1) on the internal channel and the other drive (LTO2) on the opposite external  channel.

Easiest way to do this: Remove the external drive and reboot the server, when the scsi card scans during POST you should see your LTO1 drive attached to either CH-A or CH-B...take note of what channel it is on. You can shut down the server once you determine the channel (unless you just like watching your OS boot)

Now add the external drive to the opposite channel via the external connector and power the drive on.

When the LTO2 drive has finished its POST and is ready go ahead and power on the server.

You should now see CH-A with a listed device and CH-B with a listed device.

Hope this helps
