An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\DR1 during a paging operation.
Hi there
I finally reconfigured LUNs etc etc on my 650F. Its working great...atleast on one SP. On SPA, I get a LOT of these errors while doing a copying when connected to this one. But when I'm connecting to the SPB, the speed seems fine, but I still get 20-30 warnings in my event viewer. Any ideas about this error:
"

"
Besides this, can anyone explain to me why I cannot connect my HBA to the A port of either SP. My navisphere just wont detect anything Works ok on the Port Bs though.
Thank you
John

The timeouts could be occurring because of incorrect settings on the HBA or using the wrong driver.
As far as SPA, does it boot? You can verify this by connection a null modem cable and using hyperterminal 9600/8/n/1 none, and watch it boot. It should enter serial application mode after a successful boot.

Hi Eric
Thank you for your reply.
Yes the SPs boot fine, both of them.
I guess you're right about the drivers or HBA settings. The thing is, I'm using an Emulex LP8000 HBA. When I use the EMC specific driver from emulex website, the machine on which the HBA is installed reponds VERY VERY slowly ( and I'm not exxagerating)
I'm using the Windows 2000 supplied default driver for this HBA, and atleast I'm able to work on the machine.
P.S. I'm also using a homemade cable. Could this be a cable issue as well? How do I narrow it down?
Any ideas are welcomed. I'm desperate
Regards
John

The native Windows 2000 driver just won't work properly in the SAN. Microsoft assume a single HBA would always be used, so a 2nd or 3rd HBA probably won't work. Also the tuning parameters for the driver are off as well. Your best bet would be to get yourself a qlogic 2200 HBA and use the Dell Ceritified Qlogic driver. Dell never did certify the Emulex HBA with the PV 650 / Clariion 5700, so we can't say how it would work.
As far as the cable goes, I really can't recommend the use of a home made cable, but if the pin outs are correct and you get conductivity, it's probably not the cable.
