Backup Exec and PV122T issues continue

After installing the latest driver I had another backup failure Backup 0006 -- The job failed with the following error: A failure occurred querying the Writer status.   The next scheduled backup worked without intervention, any ideas on why this is happening.  This is BE 9.1 Rev 4691 and the latest drivers off the veritas website.   Secondly... and this one is really bugging me.  I do a weekly copy backup.  I have a partition with 3 slots allocated for the copy backup.  So far we only use about 1 1/2 tapes but at current rate, in about a years time it will use 2 and a bit more... three tapes all loaded and made into a media set.  Backup is set to overwrite the media each week.  I do this three weeks, then a Full backup allowing timed incrementas on the fourth week.  The overwrite time is set to 5 days on weely copy media, the backup job itself is set to overwrite.  The media's append is set to infinite.. can't seem to disable append, but the job says overwrite, so I would assume it would, but it won't, it appends until it is full... and they I assume it's going to overwrite.  This isn't the behaviour I want.  I just want it to overwrite every time...  I suppose what it is doing will wear the tape more evenly, but it makes it complicated to do restores... is there any  way I can just get it to overwrite the media from the beginning each time?  BE is really driving me crazy, it seems to want to manage everything itself, I dunno, call me old fashioned, but I don't trust backup software to manage things itself and when I tell it to do something, I like it to do what I tell it to do, not what it thinks it should do... to be honest, I'm sorry I ever bought it as Windows Backup actually does everything I want ... biggest problem is that windows can't control the drive for me to do an ASR with it, every time I try to restore an ASR,  windows ASR utility says no drives are attached. Anyone with any insight on these problems?  I'd sure appreciate some help at this point.    Thanks

On the first issue, this appears to be related to the backup using the open file agent / Volume Shadow Service (VSS) components.

View the Backup Exec "Backup Job Properties under "advanced open file" and check if you are using open agent or VSS).

You may need to check the Veritas website as to the exact cause of the error message.
