Cannot get into Web/Remote Management Site (Password Reset)
We have a Dell Power Vault 124T and have a Tape Jammed Type (BF) error message on the LCD. I am trying to get into the RMU which I can navigate to, but need admin username and password. I have tried all the conventional ones we use at our place of business with no success. I have also tried using admin/password admin/admin and a whole bunch of other default Dell passwords with no success. How can I reset this password?

Hello Lbk81,
When you try to login to your PV124T above the username there should be 5 numbers inside a set of ** like the following example**12345**. I will send you a private message and if you can provide me with that number, & I can provide you with a temporary so that you can get access and change the administrator password.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Sam,
Pardon my ignorance, but would this be on the RMU, or the physical unit itself? I do not see anything above the username inside a set of ** when I try to login to the PV124T. Attached
is what I see..

Hello Lbk81,
If you select configuration tab does it bring up any options or does it ask you to login? If it asks you to login, that is where you will find the **12345**.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello Lbk81,
What you can try to do is to try & manually move the media out the drive to any empty slot. If that doesn’t work, then you can try to upgrade the firmware on the tape drive. What this will do is rewind the media & should force the media out of the drive. If that doesn’t work either, then you will need to remove the drive from the chassis & manually remove the media.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Sam,
How exactly do I manually move the media out of the drive to an empty slot? I take it I can do this from the RMU? If so, can you provide guidance on steps needed? Thank you.

Hello Lbk81,
You can move media via the RMU. If you select the Library Operations page you will see a picture of the PV124T. You can select the tape in the drive & try to move it to any slot that is empty. If the slot is green, then there is a tape in the slot. If the slot is tan, then it is cleaning media. Here is the link to the user’s guide for your PV124T as well. https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_powervault/powervault-124t_user%27s%20guide11_en-us.pdf

Sam,
I chose drive from the drop down, and chose slot 4 to move it to. It goes from moving to calibrating in the status and keep going back and forth. I am not sure why it shows a tape in the drive and mailslot. Are they the same? Also, when I try to do a firmware update, it says error: cannot do firmware update because tape is present or something. See screen shot.

Hello Lbk81,
Looking at the picture that you posted, you first need to move the media in the mailslot to any empty slot. Once that is done then see if you can move the media out of the drive or see if you still get the BF error code. If you are still getting the BF error, then you will need to make sure that there is no media in the picker. I am pretty sure that once you move the media out of the mailslot, that you should be able to move the media out of the drive.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Sam,
There is no longer a tape in the mailslot, but one still shows in the drive (See attached screenshot). When I go to the unit itself and try to eject this media, it is not finding it in the magazine, because it seems to be lodged in the drive itself. Is there a way to try and dislodge this media using RMU? I can physically see the tape if I open the flap that covers the slot, but for some reason, cannot seem to get it out. Any ideas

Hello Lbk81,
The only other thing that you can try is to remove the sas cable from yout PV124T & see if the media will come out. If it still won’t then the only way to remove the media is to remove the drive, and manually remove the media from the drive.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
